CMS List for Finding the Best CMS for You

Website Structure

Here’s a CMS list that’s worth revealing. We tried a metric ton of content management systems (CMS) in the search for our favorite. Read on to find the best CMS for you.

We wanted something that meets this criterion:

  • Something that looks nice.
  • Organized back end.
  • Easy to use and administer.
  • No scripting or customizing for basic features.
  • Easily “SEOable” out of the box.
  • Something that has a lot of plugins, extensions, and more that’s easy to install and run.
  • Something regularly patched, updated, and had new features released.

We have probably installed and evaluated over 30 different CMSs. As you can see from the list below, there were several others that didn’t make the cut.

  • CMS Made Simple
  • Concrete5
  • Contao
  • Drupal
  • Get Simple
    • Get Simple was definitely within our top 3 favorites but it required too much manual work. We knew one day we would need to stop being web developers and designers and spend more emphasis on strategy and creating and promoting content.
  • Joomla
  • ModX
  • Perch CMS
  • SilverStripe
  • TextPattern
  • Jaws Project
  • TinyCMS
  • Wolf CMS (link removed)
    • Note: Currently down as DB Connection failed: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
    • There may have been unresolved security issues with this CMS. I’m leaving this entry here as a warning.
  • WordPress

And one last thing, DO NOT RUN OUT OF DATE CMSs IN PRODUCTION!
